You might be wondering about our name. "Sanpo" (散歩) is a beautiful Japanese word for a leisurely walk or a stroll. It represents our core philosophy: that the greatest joys and deepest peace are found not in rushing toward a destination, but in walking gently through life, noticing the beauty along the way, and appreciating the journey itself.

My Journey to Sanpo: A Note from Mary
Hello, I'm Mary, the heart behind Paper Pen Sanpo. My journey to this little shop has been a sanpo itself, with two paths wonderfully converging.
For over 20 years, I worked as a counsellor and coach in the community sector, supporting people with their mental health and wellbeing. While traditional methods were helpful, I always found myself drawn to the most natural and flowing framework: creative art therapy. I saw firsthand how the simple acts of drawing, writing, and making could unlock emotions, reduce stress, and foster a powerful sense of connection—often when words alone were not enough.
Alongside this passion was my lifelong love for creating. Born in Japan and raised with a deep appreciation for its exquisite stationery and crafts, I was always drawing, sewing, or folding origami. I believe there is a unique magic in Japanese stationery—a commitment to quality, beauty, and function that makes the creative process a true delight.
Now, I’ve woven these two threads together. Paper Pen Sanpo is my offering to you: a blend of beautiful, quality products (many sourced from Japan’s renowned artisans) and a supportive community that understands the healing power of creativity.
It is my deepest hope that through these tools, you can find a moment of peace, discover the joy of expressing your unique self, and remember that you are enough, just as you are.
